In 1951 Charles and Ray Eames presented their first chair fully from steel wire. A light but stable chair of good material and yet immediately economical.

Although the wire chair produced by the Eames Office was not the first wire chair on the market, ist visual and physical lightness, minimal use of materials, and the intelligence of ist construction and production techniques make it a highly attractive chair and one of the Eamses most interesting designs. This offered chair is from the very first production in 1951/1952. The very first produced Eames wire chairs did contain the significant square joint under the seat shell. The rubber shock mount system used fort he plastic group and plywood group was not suitable for connecting the chair and base in this case because there was no surface to which it could be attached. Instead, the Eames Office developed an (initially square) wire joint that was welded to the shell The base was fastened to this supporting frame with screws. Due to structurally reasons (breaking of the rod structure) the initially square joint was shortly after the production start changed and. Widened to a more complex and supporting structure which. Therefore only very few of the initial square joint version chairs survived in a good condition without breakage of the rod structure. This almost 70 years old chair is in its exact original condition since its production in 1951/1952. It is whit its original lounge (cats cradle) base. The beautiful black wire shell is in a very nice vintage condition. It still contains its nice black finish. A modest patina tells about the many years of this chairs life (very minor abrasion of the black finish).

Three broken rods along the square joint (nearly not visible). Please refer to the pictures provided. The lounge base is in exceptional perfect vintage condition. The whole original chair does not have any repairs or rewelds present.

This is a highly worth collecting an extraordinary example of American design history in an amazingly beautiful and all original condition.
